Sy Rosefelt was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee but he pursued what has become a lifelong interest in drawing and painting by joining the Milwaukee Men's Sketch club. His title of "Night Owl Chairman" put him in contact with local art critics who once a month constructively critiqued the member's art. The club also met once a week to draw and paint from live models.

In this club, Sy mingled with artists from literally all walks of life. They painted together and shared their love of art and networked. The group also held shows together and met with other clubs. Continuing to extend his art knowledge, Sy is an avid reader of art history and the life of artists. His favorites include William Turner, Whistler, Homer, the Impressionists and the Post Impressionists.

His architectural renderings were sparked when he met the"Painted Ladies"(Victorian homes in San Francisco). These "Ladies" presented themselves as a challenge. They are "like puzzles to be put together to bring out their personalities". To Rosefelt, the houses are like portraits of people. This eventually led to his Home Portrait business.

He also enjoys painting landscapes and people involved in various activities and plein air painting (outdoor painting). Rosefelt is adept in photography amd his media preferences are watercolor, pen and ink, pencil, acrylic and pastel.

Rosefelt has been living and painting in Florida for the last 25 years and considers he is a "native by choice". Presently he's an active member in the Central Florida Watercolor Society where he is the group Historian. Sy also presides over their plein air (outdoor painting) program. He also makes photographic records of their meetings, club demonstrations and group shows.

Always an innovator, Sy has continuously studied various drawing and painting techniques over the years, often traveling the US to attend workshops or paint unique subjects. Aside from traveling around Florida, recent painting expeditions have included trips to California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Wyoming, Montana, Yellowstone National Park. To further sharpen his talents, he has attended workshops with artists of note such as, Don Andrews, Tom Jones and Pat Weaver.

Sy uses photos for reference, but as can be seen in his painterly style, has no interest photographic reality in his paintings. "I feel rigid rules can be broken to free your style. Study the masters you relate to. For practice, copy them. Some techniques will rub off and become your own. Don't be afraid to change. Visual art is like playing music. You don't continue to play the same piece over and over."

"I have led an honest life and hope my art reflects it. I hope you enjoy viewing it as much as I did creating it."
